Our six-week program is a comprehensive course that teaches the basics of wilderness survival. Our adults' weekend course focuses on wilderness travel and navigation, perfect for those looking for an adventure. Join us and challenge yourself to experience the beauty of Mother Nature.
6-8: $65 - 60 minutes
9-11: $95 - 90 minutes
12-15: $130 - 120 minutes
Experience the great outdoors and acquire new skills through our Youth Wilderness Camps. Our classes are age-appropriate that will challenge each child where they are at and cover everything from plant identification and fire safety to navigation and basic first aid. Whether your child is a nature enthusiast or just starting out, our camp offers plenty of opportunities to learn and explore. All sessions will include nature hikes and time for hands-on practical experiences. Come join us for a memorable wilderness experience!
2 Day Course: $200
Don't let a lack of navigation skills hold you back from exploring the wilderness. Our Find Your Way course is designed to teach you everything you need to know about basic land navigation. Over the course of two days, you'll learn map and compass use, how to locate yourself on a map, how to get unlost, and how to signal for help in an emergency. With this course under your belt, you'll be able to confidently explore the great outdoors.
1. Sessions are limited to 10 participants per class. Upcoming classes will be posted. 2. Liability waiver required for all participants. 3. Parents required to stay on premises during all instruction.

Youth Camp Instructor
Shallie Hurd is a mom of 4 boys and has homeschooled for 8 years. She is a certified aroma therapist and owner of Southern Maine Stockyard. Before becoming a mom she served 8 years in the Army with 2 combat tours to Iraq. Shallie grew up on a cattle ranch which meant spending summers camping on pasture, hunting and living off the land. Shallie has extensive training in first aide, terrain navigation, map reading and wilderness survival. She has spent the last 10 years homesteading, becoming self sufficient on her farm and teaching various wilderness and homesteading classes.
Shallie enjoys teaching and challenging children in real life situations to think critically and gain confidence through their own abilities.
Adult Camp Instructor
JR Hurd is a father of 4 boys and the husband of Shallie. He is a 20-year Army Veteran with 4 combat tours to Iraq. JR has led hundreds of combat patrols both mounted and dismounted through various terrains. He has taught Soldiers all through his career on land navigation, map reading, and compass use and now instills these skills in his boys. JR grew up in Lebanon, Maine and has spent years wandering in the woods of Southern Maine.
JR enjoys sharing his knowledge and love of orienteering and invites you to join him on the Southern Maine Stockyard farm.
